Senior Scientist Molecular Modelling

Main Responsibilities:

  • Identification, extraction and assessment of relevant structural information from literature and patents in the context of new target proposals
  • Develop, propose and discuss design concepts for target binding and modulation in the context of our macrocycle platform
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative SAR analyses to support hit to lead and lead optimization of macrocycle drugs
  • Collaborate closely within a cross-functional project team; liaise in particular with medicinal chemists to support optimization efforts
  • Present results and design concepts to project team members and external collaboration partners in a concise, understandable and focused manner
  • Mining of databases (3-D structural databases, sequence data bases, ChEMBL etc.)
  • Permanent improvement of your skills and maintenance of our molecular modeling environment, in particular MOE

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree in life sciences or physics
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience in molecular modeling and drug design
  • Strong knowledge of structural analyses of protein / ligand or antibody complexes and target based drug design as well as strong knowledge of ligand based drug design
  • Excellent presentation skills and an exquisite ability to explain modeling concepts and data in a concise, understandable and focused manner
  • Broad and in depth knowledge and experience in working with commercial scientific software packages in this field, in particular strong experience and skills of at least 5 years in using MOE
  • Broad understanding of underlying concepts and methodologies in molecular modeling and chemo-informatics in the context of drug discovery & development and a broad knowledge of literature related to molecular modeling and drug design
  • Knowledge about and experience in understanding 3D structures of small cyclic peptides and macrocycles is an additional asset
  • Strong team player in an expert function contributing expert knowledge to a cross-functional project team in a goal oriented and ambitious environment
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) is a must, other languages (German and/or French) are a benefit
  • Relevant working/residency permit or Swiss/EU-Citizenship required
