Our client, a global market leader in the production and process support of active pharmaceutical ingredients, both in the chemical and biotechnology sectors, is looking for a:

 Senior SAP Basis Engineer

for a full-time 6-month freelancer role for their office in Valais, Switzerland – but work is remote in European Union region. You need to live in European Union or in Switzerland, and have registered your own consultancy company.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior SAP Basis Engineer to join our client's global IT team. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, configuration, optimization, and strategic enhancement of our SAP landscapes. You will play a key role in ensuring system performance, reliability, and security while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to align SAP platforms with evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain SAP systems, including S/4HANA, ECC, BW, Solution Manager, and related components.
  • Perform installations, upgrades, patches, and migrations across on-premise and cloud environments (Azure).
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot critical incidents, and implement tuning measures to ensure stability and reliability.
  • Support disaster recovery, backup strategies, and landscape resilience.
  • Collaborate with development, functional, and infrastructure teams on enhancements, implementations, and continuous maintenance.
  • Analyze business requirements to ensure alignment between customer expectations and existing/future IT capabilities.
  • Coordinate and plan upgrades, releases, and project activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying optimization and automation opportunities.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation for SAP systems and operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, security policies, and SAP best practices.
  • Scout new technologies, run proof-of-concepts, engage with vendors, and contribute to defining global SAP infrastructure standards.
  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to junior team members as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Relevant working/residency permit or Swiss/EU-Citizenship required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of SAP Basis administration experience.
  • Strong understanding of SAP architecture with hands-on expertise in S/4HANA, ECC, and SAP BW.
  • Proven experience with SAP migrations and upgrades, including Azure cloud environments.
  • Solid database administration skills (HANA, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Strong knowledge of SAP security, including role-based access control.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as SAP Solution Manager, EarlyWatch Alerts, and System Monitoring.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities, with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, particularly in remote teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and frameworks.
  • Certifications in SAP Basis or HANA administration.
