Our client, a global market leader in the production and process support of active pharmaceutical ingredients, both in the chemical and biotechnology sectors, is looking for a:

Senior Buyer

on a 6-month contract, based in Basel, Switzerland.

In this role, you will collaborate with Global Category Managers to drive value, innovation, and continuous improvement in procurement processes. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Global Category Managers to develop and implement category and sourcing strategies tailored to site-specific needs.
  • Support the execution of sourcing initiatives for delegated spend.
  • Provide expertise in tendering, negotiation tactics, contracting, and procurement systems.
  • Drive savings initiatives by identifying opportunities, developing pipelines, and realizing cost reductions.
  • Support the roll-out of procurement policies, procedures, and tools to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Identify and engage with site stakeholders to understand and align procurement activities with business needs.
  • Ensure supply continuity and availability of necessary materials to maintain operations.
  • Maintain and strengthen professional partnerships with suppliers.
  • Conduct supply risk assessments.
  • Develop and implement mitigation solutions for identified business risks.
  • Support the roll-out of procurement tools, processes, and systems (e.g., SAP, Ariba, E-Auctions).

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant working/residency permit or Swiss/EU-Citizenship required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of strategic procurement experience, with a focus on tendering, negotiation, and contract management.
  • Einkaufsfachfrau / Einkaufsfachmann certification or CIPS certification is considered an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a customer service mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in SAP, Ariba, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in third-party spend management and e-procurement systems.
  • Knowledge of category management, supplier management, and contract management.
