Our client, an innovative Swiss bio-pharmaceutical company, is seeking an Genomics Data Scientist for a 12-month contract in the Basel area.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Implements and applies cutting-edge bioinformatics approaches, staying up to date with new genomics data analysis methodologies published in the field.
  • Develops novel genomics data processing pipelines for RNAseq, scRNAseq, Spatial Transcriptomics, and other genomics technologies.
  • Analyzes genomics data and contextualizes results to advance understanding of drug mechanism of action and pharmacodynamics in clinical trials and pre-clinical models.
  • Mines and re-analyzes published and publicly available data to support genomics study design and interpretation.
  • Contributes to genomics experiment design to ensure feasibility of the analysis.
  • Collaborates with Translational Data Science, Scientific Computing teams, and members of the Genomics Biomarker Lab.
  • Supports Genomics Biomarker Lab with genomics data analysis and reporting.
  • Analyzes and documents human genomics biomarker data in line with best practices, GDPR, and regulatory requirements.
  • Presents and publishes genomics data analysis to internal and external parties.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MSc or PhD in a relevant computational science discipline (genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, or similar).
  • A minimum of 3 years (post PhD) to 6 years (post MSc) of experience in the role focused on genomics data processing and analysis using diverse tools/methods to answer scientific questions.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry setting, particularly in the field of CNS, Immunology, and Fibrosis, would be advantageous.
  • Proven expertise (e.g., publications, software packages, public repositories) in data analysis and interpretation in at least two of the following: RNAseq, scRNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, and other genomics technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of programming languages R, Bash, and experience with documentation platforms such as GitLab. Working knowledge of Python, AWS cloud infrastructure, Nextflow, nf-core, and Docker would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Efficient interaction with wet-lab colleagues is essential.
  • Excellent communication, documentation skills, and attention to detail are key to this position.
